Apéritif is known mainly for its dinner service, which unfolds slowly throughout the evening. Lunch is less widely known, and it works on different terms. It happens in daylight, takes less time, and comes from the same kitchen.
Lunch runs from 12 pm to 2 pm daily. The room is the same as well: the Art Deco dining room within Viceroy Bali, above Valley of the Kings and roughly 10 to 15 minutes from central Ubud. Viceroy Bali is a family-owned boutique hotel with 40 private pool villas, and Apéritif is part of its dining programme alongside Pinstripe Bar and CasCades Restaurant.
The Kitchen at Midday
Apéritif works to a single culinary philosophy, “European Technique. Indonesian Soul.”, which pairs European technique with ingredients from Bali and across the Indonesian archipelago. Under the culinary artistry of the Apéritif team, the midday service draws on the same kitchen and menu as the evening service.
The restaurant received a Silver Star at the Star Wine List of the Year Southeast Asia 2026 and was a finalist in the Best Medium List category.
The Menus Served at Lunch
Lunch follows the same structure as dinner. Guided by the Moon is served in seven-course and five-course formats, and the vegetarian and vegan degustations are built to the same standard, all bookable with the same 24 hours’ notice.
The seven-course menu opens with cocktails and canapés, moves through tuna with pindang sauce, heirloom tomato with goat cheese and kombucha, and Madura blue crab in a risotto built on pumpkin and kemangi, before reaching a choice between beef cheek in the style of Coto Makassar and the day’s line-caught fish. It closes with rice, chocolate and mignardises. The five-course menu follows a shorter path through the same core dishes.
Optional supplements are available at either sitting, including Venison Wellington, Kagoshima A5 Wagyu, and a cheese platter.
Nothing is reduced for the midday service. A guest choosing the beef cheek receives the same dish served at dinner, built on the same clean and precise broth. The Madura blue crab is likewise unchanged, its sweetness balanced by pumpkin, kemangi and bouillon.
Guests with dietary requirements are asked to give notice in advance. Most allergies and restrictions can be accommodated with enough warning.
The Wine Cellar and the Pace of a Midday Meal
The cellar sits open within the dining room, visible from the tables and drawn from by the sommelier team through service. Wine pairing is available in seven-course and five-course configurations across all menus, including the vegetarian and vegan degustations, and selected bottles can be poured by the glass in 125ml measures via a Coravin system.
Light and Pace
What separates lunch from dinner at Apéritif is mostly a matter of light and time. Dinner unfolds after dark across a longer sitting. Lunch takes place in daylight and moves at a pace suited to an early afternoon.
The practical difference is that a midday booking leaves the evening free. For guests staying elsewhere in Ubud, or those looking more broadly for a fine-dining lunch in Bali, the daytime service offers access to the same kitchen and room without committing to a full evening.
Booking and Capacity
Lunch requires 24 hours’ notice and does not accept walk-ins, so tables are reserved directly with the restaurant ahead of arrival.
The main dining room seats 60. The Private Dining Room seats up to 10 around a long table and carries a minimum spend. It is arranged for groups rather than couples, and enquiries go directly to the reservations team.
Couples wanting a more private setting can ask about the Romantic Candlelight Dinner, available at Apéritif or at CasCades. It follows the same course structure with additional detailing for the occasion.
A Lunch Built on Its Own Terms

Lunch at Apéritif is not a shortened evening. It is a separate service that runs the same seasonal menu in a different light, on a schedule that fits around the rest of the day rather than replacing it. Because it needs to be booked a day in advance, it is the part of the restaurant that most rewards planning.
